Creation of the Progressive Education Association
The goal of this group was to spread progressive teaching methods to schools across the country. Their main goals were child-centered education and pedagogical methods that would help children develop rather than just discipline them. This organization dissolved in 1955. -
Introduction of the Common Core Standards
The National Governors Association and the Council of Chief State School Officers created this new set of academic standards in order to create a more uniform and standardized set of knowledge that all schools must teach their students. The goal of common core is to ensure that all students will be equally prepared to come to college and pursue a future career.
