  • Japanese American Internment Camps Created

    Following the Pearl Harbor Attack, many Americans were afraid of all Japanese people. Because of this, the US government forced relocation of thousands of Japanese Americans to detention camps.
  • Riot during the Detroit Race

    The riot escalated in the city after a false rumor spread that a mob of whites had thrown a black mother and her baby into the Detroit River. Blacks looted and destroyed white property as retaliation. Whites overran Woodward to Veron where they proceeded to tip over 20 cars that belonged to black families.
  • Harlem Race Riot

    This riot resulted after a white police officer, James Collins, shot and wounded Robert Bandy, an African-American soldier.
  • D-Day

    Allied invasion of Normandy in Operation Overlord during World War II. This is one of the most recognizable battles of WWII.
  • The Cold War Begins

    The Cold War was a time of high tension between America and the Soviet Union. Though there was never any physical conflict, it is called a war because of the serious threats of nuclear weapons.
  • Atomic Bomb Dropped on Hiroshima

    This was the first time that America used atomic bombs in war. The bombing killed between 126,000-226,000 people.
  • The United Nations is Founded

    The UN is a group of governments from different nations who work together to maintain international peace and security, as well as keeping up foreign relations.
  • Marshall Plan Enacted

    The Marshall Plan was a program to provide economic aid to Europe. During this program, the US transferred over $13 billion to Western European countries following World War 2.
  • The Korean War Begins

    The Korean War was fought between North and South Korea. The war started when North Korea invaded South Korea.
