T9 predictive text- Martin King
T9 predictive text was invented and instead of tapping one number multiple times to get the letter you wanted you could press multiple keys and it would guess what you are typing. It also be familiar with phrases you were constantly using. I remember not wanting to use this cause it was scary and I was already good at multi tapping on my flip phone! It was scary at first but once I started using it then I could text message SO much faster! -
AOL Instant messenger- Barry Appleman
AOL Instant messenger was the coolest thing ever! I remember being able to have a group chat with all my friends at once with a keyboard. I even remember I really liked a guy in Jr. High School and we could send hearts and lips and different clip art back and forth. I even remember sneaking into my account at school and messaging friends while our class was in the computer lab for homework assignments. Skype eventually took over and now there are TONS of ways to message your friends. -
IPod - Steve Jobs
The IPod was invented! I was so stocked to be able to hold all my music on this tiny device and take it to all my volleyball games. You could personalize playlists and depending on the price it could hold quite of bit of memory. -
Skype- Niklas Zennström, Janus Friis
Skype was invented and you could video chat with people around the world. I remember around this time I was online dating and every guy I started talking to wanted to Skype and I was like heck no! I was not comfortable in front of the camera talking to strangers. I also recall a job wanting to interview me on Skype and I quickly declined. -
Real Care Babies
Real Care babies were being used in schools to prevent teen pregnancies. I remember my older sister had to carry around an egg for a grade. I thought to myself how easy that was vs. my baby that cried in the middle of the night. I remember losing one of its diapers and it had a magnet in it so if I did not change the diaper it showed negligence and I got docked on my grade. The real care baby was an intense experience and still nowhere near the real thing.
