Dynamic RAM

1970

Intel releases the 1103. The first dynamic RAM chip, with a capacity of 1024 bits.

E-mail

1971

Ray Tomlinson developed the e-mail using ARPANET, allowing him to send messages back and fourth between two different computers. Something never done before outside of two users logged onto the same computer.

Atari

1972

Atari was founded in 1972 which also marked the release of Pong. The first step toward the massive success of video games.

MITS Altair 8800

1975

This allowed computer enthusiasts or people wanting to learn about computers the chance to buy a computer kit and assemble it themselves. While they had limited use and storage, low price and do-it yourself appeal widely contributed to its popularity.

Motorola

1979

In 1979, Motorola released the 68000 microprocessor the first entry in the 68k series of microprocessors and the eventual key component of many hugely successful Apple and Atari products in the following decade.
