Using dual PowerPC 603 CPUs, and featuring a large variety of ports, these were mainly used for software development. It didn't sell much and then in 1997 less than 2,000 machines were produced.

Grand Theft Auto is released
This game was a free-form structure that allowed players to do anything they want to do while giving them points for creating havoc. This included running over pedestrians and completing missions. This increased as well as sex, drugs, and violence in any other video game, leading to many complaints.

WiFi Comes Home
IEEE 802.11b short-range radio networking standard is re branded as Wi-Fi. This is the same year that Apple releases its "Airport" Wi-Fi router. They then build this technology into their Macs.

MySpace was not the first or the largest social network but it was important to define the second wave of social media networking. It added features such as file storage and games.

Lenovo acquires IBM's PC business
Lenovo, China's largest manufacturer of PCs, purchased IBM's personal computer business in 2005, largely to gain access to IBM's ThinkPad line of computers and sales force. Link text
