Our family gets our first computer
One of my earliest memories is actually when my father first got a computer for in our old house when I was around the age of 2. He built the computer himself (he called it fankincomputer) and I distinctly remember that it did not do much as we didn't have access to the internet at that time. I do remember though playing a Tonka building game all the time on it. None the less this is the first time I have witnessed computer technology in my life. image from wordpress.com -
Computer labs are implemented as part of the curriculum in school
My elementary school started to make every class learn how to properly type using a keyboard. They accomplished this by using the format of games to increase the words per minute of the students. I also remember using floppy disks to save the progress on out assignments. It was the first and last time I used floppy disks. This is an important milestone because the school system from then on started to turn to computer based writing instead of only using hand writing. image from amazon.com -
Social media takes off with facebook
Something that is associated with my era is the start of social media sweeping the nation. Facebook changed how people socialized and talked about each other, instead of everything being in person it all changed to an online platform. Starting out this wasn't a bad thing, but as the years went by since I joined, the platform turned more political and misinformation and radical ideas started to be projected more. image from Facebook -
First smart phone
Up to this point I only had a slide phone that I used, because my parents thought it was best that i can use a regular phone before given a smart phone. Now that I am older I see the benefit of this. When I was given a smart phone I realized that information has become so early available to use now. Technology has become portable and easily to asses and this trend will never end. image from digitaltrends.com -
I build my own computer
In 2016 my friend convinced me to build my own computer. Something that stood out to me when compared to when my dad made the first computer in 1997 is how easy it was to build a computer. All I had to do to build the computer was to put all the pieces together similarly to building a puzzle. This is the computer that I still use today and I honestly don't see how I could survive school with out one. which shows how dependent I have become for personal computers. Image from NZXT.com
