  • Adobe Photoshop

    Adobe Photoshop
While this may not be an actual piece of technology, it is software that I was suprised to see was created in the 1990s. It is amazing to see how this has progressed and is a huge part of today's society. It originally started in the late 1980s by Thomas and John Knoll. It was taken on by Adobe and developed into what it is today based on the February 1990 Adobe Photoshop 1.0 release. By 1999 Adobe Photoshop had progressed to the 5.5 version and at the turn of the century was on the 6.0 version.

    DVD
While the DVD was decades in the making, it wasn't until 1995 that the DVD as we know it was released. The DVD allowed us to simply start the video and not having to worry about rewinding. Additionally, it paved the way to clearer images in film such as HD and Blueray.

    Tamagotchi
The tamagotchi was the first virtual animal/game that continued on in realtime. It was created by Aki Maita and Akihiro Yokoi in Japan and was an instant hit. This game shaped future games and I'm sure programs that continue to run, regardless of human interaction.
