It was a colony in 1623. It was a fishing colony by Captain John Mason. It was named after Hampshire Country in New England. -

The first colonist on Maryland called it St. Mary's. George Calvert was the first Lord Baltimore founded it. It was for Catholic refuges. -
Roger Williams Founds Rode Island
Soon after being kicked out of Massachusetts because of his belief of separation of church and state Roger Williams went to live with the Narragansett Indians. He then formed Providence. Which is Rode Island's Capital. -
Delaware is Founded by Peter Minuit and the New Sweden Company
Peter Minuit of the Netherlands founds a colony called New Sweden. Later Peter Minuit is forced to give it up because King Charles the Second becomes in control of the land. He tells him to give it to his brother James, who is the Duke of York, and renames it Delaware. -
The Duke of York Establishes the Colony New York
When the Duke of York was in control of the former Dutch trading post he renamed it New York. This happened in 1664. The city in which the Dutch called New Amsterdam became New York City. -
Pennsylvania is Established by William Penn
King Charles the Second owed Penn's father a lot of money, but he ad died so the king gave William Penn some land. Penn wanted to call it Sylvania, but the King changed it to Pennsylvania in honor of his father. He made it also a refuge for Quakers under persecution. Then by the 1700's it grew to be the third largest colony in the New World! -
The 13 Colony's Declare there Independence from Egland
With the signing of the Declaration of Independence all of the colony's declare there independence from England. There Independence was won through the Revolutionary War. Then the Colony's became the United States of America. -
13 Colony's are Represented With First American Flag
The 13 Colony's are represented by first american flag. It had 13 stripes, switching from red and white, and 13 stars. Although the number of stars has switched to 50 it still has 13 stripes. The stripes represent the 13 colony's and the stars represent our 50 states.
