Captain James Cook
James Cook Was the first to cross the antarctic circle. Cook sailed around antarctica in sight of the mainland. At the end of the day Cook had sailed the whole length. He then gave up. Cook was paid 7 shillings a day. -
Shackleton
Sir Ernest Shackleton was the first person to reach mainland antarctica. He embarked on the most ambitious polar expedition whilst crossed the Ross & Weddell sea He was chosen on go on an antarctic expedition with Roald Amundsen and Douglas Mawson. He climbed Mt Erebus and set a record to become closest to the south pole than ever before. -
Mawson
Dougouls Mawson was a australian. He was interesed in rocks. Shackleton had offered him a place in his group that would stay in Antarctica over winter. He was the first to climb Mt Erebus. -

Amundson
Amudson was the first Person to reach the south pole. Amudson and his small crew reached the Pole on December 14 1911 travilling by dogseld. -
Byrd
Byrd was the first person to fly over the pole. He was a US army officer.
