    Germany invaded from the west and the Soviet Union invaded from the east. Poland was keeping Germany from becoming a whole. Great Britain and France declare war on Germany.

    A type of war tactic used by Germans. It created disorganization among enemies through the use of mobile forces and locally concentrated firepower. Germany quickly overran much of Europe and was victorious for more than two years.
  • Fall of Paris

    Fall of Paris
    German forces defeated Allied forces by mobile operations and conquered France, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. This brought land operations on the Western Front to an end until 6 June 1944. Italy entered the war on 10 June 1940 and invaded France over the Alps.

    Japan attacked the U.S. Pacific Naval Fleet stationed at Pearl Harbor. The Japanese disabled 19 ships, destroyed 188 airplanes, wounded 1,100, and killed 2,400. U.S. declares war on Japan.

    Churchill, FDR and Eisenhower planned a land invasion.The invasion included 150,000 soldiers, 5,000 ships, 11,000 and gliders. The resistance blew up railroads and bridges to slow down the German response on D-Day.

    Victory in Europe Day (VE Day) marks the formal acceptance by the Allies of World War II of Nazi Germany's unconditional surrender of its armed forces. The Allies had begun to overrun Germany from the west while Russian forces advanced from the east.

    The Allies advanced across Europe at the end of the Second World War. They came across concentration camps filled with sick and starving prisoners. The first major camp to be liberated was Majdanek near Lublin, Poland.

    The Germans launch the last major offensive of the war, the Battle of the Bulge, to attempt to push the Allied front line west from northern France to northwestern Belgium. The Germans lost so many experienced troops and equipment that there was no way their army could launch another attack on Allied forces. The Battle of the Bulge is most significant in that it ruined the German army and in essence brought about the end of the war.

    It was the first major battle of World War II to take place on Japanese homeland. The island of Iwo Jima was a strategic location because the US needed a place for fighter planes and bombers to land and take off when attacking Japan. 6,800 people died.

    The president decided to drop decided to drop the bomb in order to save American lives from a land invasion. Around 700,000 were killed instantly, the final death toll was 135,000. Known as VJ day.
