Fetal Developement

Proliferative phase
Start of the rebuilding of the linning of the uteran. -
Ovulation
Cervix opens allowing for sperm to enter and fertilize egg. Lasts about 5 days. -
Fertilization
sperm fertilizes egg becoming a zygote -
Zygote
zygote forms and begins to divide and make its way out of the fallopean tube -
Morula
zygote divides into 8 cells becoming a morula -
blastocyst
Morula is divided and into sixty-four cells and is now floating in the uterus. -
Implantation/placenta formation
blastocyct has attatched itself to the uteran wall becoming an embyo. the placenta and the umbilical cord also begin to form. This is the sack that will suround and provide nutrients for the baby during pregnacy. -
Ectoderm, mesoderm, endoderm
These three layers of the embryo form after implanation. The ectoderm will form into the outermost layer of skin, central and peripheral nervous systems, eyes, inner ear, and many connective tissues. the mesoderm will form into foundation for the bones, muscles, kidneys and much of the reproductive system, and the endoderm will form into a simple tube lined with mucous membranes. The lungs, intestines and bladder will develop here. -

brain and heart and spinal cord begin to develope in the 5th week -
facial features
basic facial features such as nostrils and mouth opening as well as inner ear tubes are developed in the 6th week. -
respiratory system, digestive track, and lungs
respiratory system and lungs begin to form during the 6th week as well as the digestive track. -
limbs/intestines
during the 7th week, arm paddles begin to seperate at ends forming fingers and bend at elbows. tiny leg buds form with tiny toes. Intestines begin to form as well -
Cartilage/ muscle
Cartilage begins to form in the 8th week, as well as the tounge and other muscles -
Height/weight
.63 inches, .04 ounces (1st month) -
Major organs
the pancreas, bile ducts, and gull bladder, kidney's and other major organs begin to develope in the 9th week, as well as the testes or ovaries -
Bones
during week 10 the major bones of the skeletal system form such as the back bone and ribs -
Crying
during the 12th week the baby can cry silently in the womb -
Height/weight
2.13 inches, .49 ounces ( 2nd month) -
reflexes
during week 13, the baby begins to move its arms and kick its feet.
the baby's eyes begin to move inside eyelids and it also begins to practice inhaling and exhaling. -
End of first Trimester

Some hair
eyebrows and some scalp hair may be visible -
senses and more reflexes
eyes can now sense light around the 16th and 17th weeks, baby is breathing amniotic fluid. it can now suck, swallow, blink, kick, and even grasp with its fingers -

4.57 inches, 3.53 ounces (3rd month) -
Aveoli
aveoli sacs have formed in the lungs during the 17th week -
Vernix/lanugo
skin is now covered by a white pasty cover called the vernix and underneath this is a layer of fine hair called lanugo -

baby can now here sounds in the 20th week -

Rapid growth
at around the 24th week until about the 27th week, the baby grows very rapidly putting on lots of fat and muscle -
