Nation's first open data legislation
Former Mayor Gavin Newsom enacted the nation’s first open data legislation. DataSF, the city’s one stop website for government data. DataSF uses transportation data for a slew of transportation needs, both improving San Franciscans’ commutes and helping achieve our greenhouse gas reduction goals. -
Silicon Valley Smart Grid Task Force launched
By doing this, the city has installed 5.5 million gas and electric meters with SmartMeter technology as part of its effort to give customers more information about their energy consumption and contribute to the smart grid. An integrated smart grid would save an estimated $36 billion annually by 2025 in terms of energy-efficiency gains, greater use of renewable energy and distributed generation. -
