Learning English
When I first came to this country, the only words I knew were yes and no, and I didn't understand english, the first memory I have is trying to talk to people not knowing what they were saying. -
Book Fair
After being in ESL for 2 years I learned a good amount of English and went to the book fair with my classmates and started to read books and actually understand them -
Reading Log
In the 3rd grade when I was more familiar with literature and the English language, I believe it was around this time that I was taken out of ESL and was tasked to complete a Reading Log. This was the first time that I had to read a significant amount at home and also the first time I was introduced to Diary of a Wimpy Kid -
Diary of a Wimpy Kid
Diary of a Wimpy Kid was very special to me as a kid because it was the first series of books that I had completed and which I really enjoyed reading, Over time I related to the material and found it more enjoyable over the years, I feel this is the book/series that really excelled my knowledge of books and the English language even though it was a simple book at the time. -
Moving New School / New Library
Right before 4th grade ended I moved schools and homes, so I had to adapt myself to a new school, and in 6th grade when I was adapted to the school and a little older I would go to the library with my class to pick books to read and I really appreciated going to pick new books in the library and reading them in class -
Assignments and Essays
In the 7th grade I moved back to west haven and when I started Bailey / Middle School, that's when we began and starting working on essays or writing assignments about books. This was when I introduced to a book about Dragons and their lives that I really enjoyed, but only got to read 2 or 3 books from that series because I couldn't find it anymore. These assignments although boring at the time began my Journey into analization of books and hidden meanings, forshadowing, etc. -
The realization of the use of libraries
During this I went to the library for the "first time", it wasn't actually the first time I went to the library because I did go once when I was younger but I barely remember so I account my recent visit as my "first" I actually realized the use of libraries and got a book from them. -
Annotating
This year was the first time I was introduced to annotation and writing on books. It felt weird and complicated at the time, but as i kept doing it, it became easier to look out for the words and what to write down and especially what I think of the Chapter. Although I'd much rather prefer reading the book the whole way through this was a new change for me, and something i might come across in the future.
