White House Petition
After the series aired, a petition began circulating, seeking pardons for both Avery and Dassey. It reached over 113,000 signatures. Making it eligible for White House review. Starting in December 2015 meeting the January 19 2016 deadline to get the signatures. -
Zellner Filed Additional Documents
Zellner is saying Avery's sister and her husband had something to do with the cover-up. Less than a week after submitting Avery's appeal, Zellner filed additional documents accusing Barb Janda and her husband Scott Tadych of trying to get rid of evidence that implicated Bobby Dassey in the Halbach murder. -
New Suspect
Zellner announced " we have a couple, i'd say there's one, leading the pack by a lot. But I don't want to scare him off, I don't want him to run." -
Conviction Overturned
Dassey's conviction is overturned. Judge William E. Duffin granted Dassey's writ for a petition of hebeas corpus, ruling his imprisonment is unlawful. Duffin deemed Dassey's confession to the murder as involuntary. -
45-page Motion
Zellner files a motion for evidence weeks after Dassey's conviction is overturned. he motion is demanding that physical evidence from Halbach's murder undergo more scientific testing. She is stating that the new evidence will prove Avery's innocence and bring out the real murderer. -
Dassey's Release
Dassey is briefly ordered released, Dassey was expected to be sent home in time for the holiday. with stipulation that he be unable to obtain a passport and only limited to travel in court's Eastern District of Wisconsin. -
Judge Order
Judge orders new testing for Avery of the evidence used to convict him in the Halbach murder. -
Prisoner Claims Avery Confessed
An inmate, Joseph Evans, who served time with Avery claimed that Avery confessed, described the confession in a nine-page letter that was published in the Rockford Advocate. The letter claims that Avery described details of the crimes. -
Denied New Trial
Avery is denied a new trial due to insufficient evidence. -
New Evidence
Lawyers say new evidence shows Halbach was alive after seeing Avery, Zellner, filed a motion on Avery's behalf, asking Wisconsin court to reconsider its previous decision to deny the defendant a new trial. They also found from Bobby Dassey (who testified against Avery in the beginning of the trial) that he accessed images of Halbach, as well as other violent pornography and disturbing images of dead women -
