    347 U.S. 483 (1954) landmark decision of the US Supreme Court in which the Court ruled that American state laws establishing racial segregation in public schools are unconstitutional, even if the segregated schools are equal in quality.

    Public Law (PL) 88-164 ( IDD)
    Authorized funds for training professionals to work with children with special needs and for research and demonstration, with best practices, for student with developmental disabilities and deafness (IDD). The law represented the efforts by John F. Kennedy and was followed by many others.It sent a flood of legislation to ensure children with disabilities have access to an appropriate education.

  • Education for All Handicapped Children Act

    Education for All Handicapped Children Act
    In 1975 Congress passed PL 94-142, Education for All Handicapped Children Act. It took effect in 1977 and ensured that all handicapped children have a free appropriate public education. It emphasized special education and services designed to meet unique needs of the individual student. It included six key provisions.

    Public Law 107-110 The No Child Left Behind Act, had a major impact on all school age children and a special impact on those with disabilities. Its purpose is to hold schools and educators responsible for bringing students to a minimum level of competency. This act requires schools to present test data to prove they are teaching effectively.

    2004 re-authorization of the original legislation of PL 94-142 designed to strengthen and improve earlier versions. There were major changes including the quality of personnel, IEP standards, and transition planning.

    American Recovery and Reinvestment Act
    Clear result of the recession of 2008-09, this resulted in large funds provided to many institutions including education. It provided the delivery and quality to intervention services.
