How people with disabilities were treated

People with disabilities were treated as though they were freaks. They were severely mistreated and were often put in mental institutions or insane asylums. People thought that they were punishment for the parents sins and would blame themselves for their condition. Today, people with disabilities are not viewed as strange or a monster. Instead, they are viewed as normal people who have disabilities.

  • Change in Technology

Technology has changed drastically over the decades of special education. Assistive technology is the most drastic change of all. Students with autism can now use computers that respond to eye movement for example. LAMP(Language Acquisition through Motor Planning) also makes students with autism be able to communicate. Before, educating students with disabilities just meant they get the same as everyone else, but now, schools are able to fully adjust to their needs and educate them right.
