Became a model in favor for students with disabilities to not be excluded from public education. Continues to affect my family and I as we come from an ethnic minority.

    Ed Roberts was rejected from UC Berkeley because he had polio, but eventually the decision was overturned in his favor after having to fight for his acceptance. He was the first student who relied on the wheelchair to attend the university.

    Students who speak language other than English must be tested in their primary language and English and students can't be placed in special ed classes based on IQ tests, which are culturally biased nor can IQ tests be used to place students in disability programs. This decision affects me because I too went through a process where my English was constantly tested.

This one is a bit personal as well as I struggled in school early in my educational career because English was not my first language and a special language program would have been of great help.

    When I was in sixth grade, I was diagnosed with Osgood-Schlatter disease, which is a condition that causes pain and swelling below the knee joint. I included it here because I was excused from PE for almost two months and was sent to the library every PE period of mine. Upon returning to PE, it was completely awkward explaining to my peers why I hadn't been going to PE in a very long time.
