    American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities
    The AAIDD is focused to give people an understanding of the construct of intellectual disability. It is viewed as a state of functioning that is focused on adaptive behavior, strengths, skills, health, participation, and context.
  • Council for Exceptional Children

    Council for Exceptional Children
    CEC is focused on providing free and appropriate education, support, and services for all children who have disabilities. This program allows children to have full inclusions in the classroom which can help them lead to success and new opportunities.
  • Brown v. Board of Education

    Brown v. Board of Education
    This educational segregation led students to have equal opportunities for a public education. It led to ending "separate but equal" schools which would separate white and black students. This is important in our history because it allowed all children to come together and not be excluded from education.
  • Mills v. Board of Education

    Mills v. Board of Education
    This allowed all children with disabilities the right to free public education in order to match their necessities and to be provided with specialized instruction.
  • Individuals with Disabilities Education Act

    Individuals with Disabilities Education Act
    IDEA is focused on giving children with disabilities an appropriate education and to ensure that they are also given services that assist their needs. This also supports their families by providing necessary information that will allow them to become educated in their child's disability.
  • Education for All Handicapped Children Act

    Education for All Handicapped Children Act
    This act ensured that all handicapped children would be provided with education and free meals. They would be provided with lesson plans that are appropriate to their understanding with additional services that will allow them to become successful.
  • Individualized Education Program

    Individualized Education Program
    IEP is offered in educations in order to provide additional help that a student may need. Parents, a special educator, and a general education teacher are present with the student to provide them with different learning strategies and acquire the child's needs.
  • Technology-Related Assistance for Individuals with Disabilities Act

    Technology-Related Assistance for Individuals with Disabilities Act
    This act allowed students to be provided with any type of service that they needed such as assistive technology. The technology given to students allowed them to be more involved in the classroom and also allows them to have the same opportunities as others since certain tools can be used as a means for communication. In 1998 it was changed to The Tech Act and finally, in 2004 it was changed to the Assistive Technology Act.

    Gifted and Talented Students Education Act
    This act was dedicated to students who are gifted in their education and in their talents. It is usually known that they are underrepresented. Through the years, this act has continued to renovate based on the large amount of children who have these gifted talents.
  • No Child Left Behind

    No Child Left Behind
    All children including those with disabilities are entitled to have the proper education and are expected to demonstrate proficiency in all subjects. They are provided with additional support if needed such as tutoring, after school classes, and summer programs to help them improve in their school performance.
