Exposure to Autism
One of my best friends from elementary and high school had a mild form of autism that rarely but occasionally disrupted the learning environment. He was in all mainstream classes. -

As I got older, I began to realize just how prevalent disabilities were amongst the youth in my community. -
College
In college, I began to be fully aware of just how important it is for disabled students to have access to the same resources and designing a campus that is suitable for ALL students. -
Working in After-School Programs
Working in an after-school program, I had to accommodate the different learning needs and abilities of my students in order to ensure everyone getting their schoolwork done and understood. -
Teaching
As a teacher, I was invited to 5 or 6 IEP meetings my first year as a teacher. These meetings taught me a lot more about what really defines a disability, as well as how to tackle obstacles for specific students in the classroom.
