The first spanish mission in Texas was San Clemente, made by the spanish anear San Angelo after the Jumano requested it after the 1629 mission. -

This mission was made as an attempt to convert the Caddo to catholosism but failed as they were advanced enough to not need the Spanish help and faithful enough to not stop believing in their gods. and it was abandoned in 1693 for it's failure. -
