They were sent back to America to investigate trying to find the 7 cities of gold. Although there was nothing Frey Marcos came back reporting he saw the cities. Esteban was killed by the Zunis. -

Moscoso and his leader De Soto went to America in search of gold but found nothing. They found none but found discovered the Mississippi River. They gave the same report as Coronado saying it's horrible there. -

Once Frey Marcos reported the 7 cities of gold he was sent to explore and find them. He was lied to and only found Quivera and Cibola which are wichita villages. He reported back that it was a waste of time and nobody returned for 150 years.
