U.S.S Maine Tragedy
USS Maine was a battleship built between 1888 and 1895. The ship was sent to Havana in January 1898 to protect Americans during the revolt of the Cubans against the Spanish government. On February 15th 1898, The ship sank when gunpowder magazines exploded. The ships wreck was raised in 1912 to clear the harbor and to investigate into the cause of the sinking. The ships remains were scattered in deep waters north of Havana. -
Cuban Concentration Camps
Every person were kept in the camps. The concentration camps were ran by Spanish. The shelter was very old and beat up , there was little to any food. The Cubans were cramped making diseases and tempers easy to catch. Over 400,000 Cubans died in these camps. Nobody was treated right in the camps they were similar to nazi camps. -

A group of ships led by Commodore George Dewey destroyed a Spanish group led by Admiral Montojo. The Battle of Manila Bay was the opening battle that led to the Spanish American War. July 25, 1898, the United states invaded Puerto Rico. The United states was first going to go and invade Fajardo, but Guánica was a better place to invade there was more goods. There wasn't many troops to go through and make it past. Guanica was known for small populations so it would be way easier to invade. -

Cuba and America were two countries that would trade and were very close to each other and. Then America wanted there materials . In 1959 the United states offered to buy Cuba from Spain for about $300 million, and they denied the offer because they didn’t want to give up Cuba. Then America being the way that we are just took Cuba since they didn’t take our offer on May 20, 1902. We were able to do this without problems because the treaty of Paris supported this movement. -

The treaty of Paris was signed on Dec. 10, 1898. Spain sold Cuba, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines for $20 million. After the treaty was signed spain gave all control over to the united states. After that the united states basically owned Spain. This ended the spanish american war.
