Spanish Officer Pedro Fardon
Pedro Fardon said "Not a single Cuvan will remain in this island, because we shoot all those we find in the fields, on the farms, and in every hovel. We do not leave a creature alive where we pass, be it man or animal. If we find cows, we kill them; if horses, ditto; men, women, or children, ditto; as to the houses we burn them: so everyone recieves his due - the men in balls [bullets], the animals in bayonet-thrusts. The island will remain a desert." -

Cuban War of Independence Begins
On this date, the Cuban people revolt across the island sparking yet another revolution. Rafael de Slava said "It seems to be self-evident that a curse is pressing upon Cuba, condemning her to witness her own disintegration and converting her into a prey for the operation of those swarms of vampires that are so cruelly devouring us...there is no salvation possible."
