The launch of Luna 2 by the Soviet Union meant a big advance in this race, because it was the first probe to hit the moon. -
Yuri Gagarin
This soviet cosmonaut travelled to outer space. He launched abroad the Vostok 1, becoming the first man in going out from Earth's atmosphere. This made other countries work harder to achieve more movements. -
Project Mercury
After the Soviet Union had their first mane gone out into space, the US hurried in this human spaceflight project. They first tested the craft with chimpanzees, and finally sent a crew to space. -
Luna 9
It was the first uncrewed spacecraft which survived and landed into the moon, launched by the Soviet Union. -
Project Apollo
The main purpose of this project from the NASA was landing the first human on the Moon. Finally, they succeeded and had their first men, Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins, landing on the Moon by this date. This was a great advance in Space Race. -
End of the Space Race
Finally, the end of this long race took place in 1975, being wond by the United States after the soviet union failed many attempts to launch a lunar landing craft.
