A Russian dog called Akira was sent into space. She was also testing, like Albert, the effects of space. She died in the process of what scientists thought was overheating. -

A American satalite, called Explorer 1, was launched into space to orbit Earth. It was launched four months after the Russians sent up Sputnik. It seems to me like America is comeing back in the space race. -

A Russian astronaut named Valentina Tereshkova flew into space to test the effects of space on a woman. She proved that woman could the same things men can do. -

A Russian named Alexey Leonov boarded Voskhod 2 and was out for 12 minutes and 9 seconds. He went through alot of training for months to do this. -
First American Spacewalk
Ed White, a American astronaut, went into space and spacewalked. He was in space for 23 minutes and used a oxygen propulsion gun to move himself, but it ran out so he grabbed the ropes and pulled himself to the spaceship. -
Gemini 7
The crew of Gemini 7 launched into space and stayed there for 13 and a half days. the longest time ever recorded. This was a big step for man because 13 days is a lot of time in space, especillay in that cramped space. -
Apollo 8
the crew of Apollo 8 went into space for about 4 days and orbited around the moon and landed on Christmas day. This was the first time anybody has gone out of earths orbit and to another body. They also broadcasted a show on Christmas evev and it was the biggest amount of viewers ever. -
First Man on the Moon
Neil Armstrong (american) boarded Apollo 11 and flew to the moon. He sayed some famous words that were "This is one step for a man, one big leap for mankind." These words meant that mankind can do anything it dreams of.
