German V2
German V2 was launched on September 7,1944 and it was the 1st rocket to travel 100 km up the earth’s space. This rocket was designed by Wernher Von Braun. This rockets were used in World War II. Since, this was the 1st rocket, it was a huge accomplishment. -
Albert II
Albert II was the 1st monkey in space. He went to space on June 14, 1949. He travelled to space in a very special adapted American V2 rocket. He travelled a height of 83 miles from the surface of the earth. This was a really important event because, it’s a big deal to send an animal to space. -
Sputnik 1
Sputnik was the 1st ever human made satellite into space. It was launched on October 4th, 1957 by the Soviet Union. This was the item that was mostly the reason of the space race between the Soviet Union a.k.a Russia and the US. It was the start of the Space Age. -
Space race To The Moon
There was a space race between the US and Soviet Union to send the 1st space craft to the moon. The space probe was launched on September 12, 1959. Russian scientists created the 1st space probe to land on moon but it wasn’t carrying any living creatures in it. The space probe was called Luna 2 and it crash landed on the moon in a really high speed which would’ve killed anyone if they were in the space probe. It took approximately 33 hours for Luna 2 to “land” on the moon. -
1st Person in Space
Russian Yuri Gagarin was the 1st person in space. He travelled in a space craft named Vostok 1 on April 12, 1961. Gagarin along with his space craft completed an orbit around the earth and safely landed after 2 hours of launch. This was one of the most important event in the space history and a huge improvement in the space timeline. -
Surveyor 1
Surveyor 1 was a robot spaceship that NASA sent to the moon before they tried sending any people and risk their life. Surveyor 1 landed successfully on the moon on May 30th, 1966. The Surveyor was able to take pictures of the moon’s surface after its landing which America and the world used to help people prepare if they were to go to the moon and help them understand how it is there. It took approximately 65 hours for the Surveyor 1 to land on the moon. -
1st Human Being On The Moon
American astronauts Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Edwin Aldrin were the 1st people to land on the moon. They travelled by the spaceship Apollo 11 which successfully landed on July 20, 1969. It was 1 small step for them but 1 giant leap for mankind. This was also one of the huge accomplishment during the space race. This is yet known to be one of the most important and exciting space mission of all time. -
1st To Explore Mars
Mars 2 was the 1st spacecraft to land on Mars. It was a Russian space probe and it landed on May 19, 1971. The probe had 2 parts in total, 1 part stayed on the planet for 1 year to send constant pictures of mars to the earth and the other part was to explore the surface of Mars but was destroyed when its parachute refused to open. Mars is one of the hardest planet to travel to so getting a spacecraft there was pretty exciting. -
Lunar Rover
Lunar Rover is a vehicle that helped the astronauts explore the moon starting from 1971. The vehicle was about 10 feet long and 6 feet wide. Since the moon is all grey, people could easily get lost so astronauts rode on the vehicle to travel back and forth and it could carry 2 people. Astronauts brought back moon rock, sand and other items they could find on the moon which helped the scientists understand better about the planet. It is also known as the Moon Buggy or Lunar Buggy. -
Galileo Spacecraft
Galileo was a spacecraft which was sent to study Jupiter and its moons on October 18, 1989. It took the spacecraft 6 years from earth to reach Jupiter. The goal of sending this space craft was to make it orbit around Jupiter and its moons to send information back to earth to help scientists understand and receive more information about the planet.
