    First artificial earth satellite from USSR. This scared the USA because they feared the USSR could luanch a neclear weapon via the R-7 rocket.

  • First dog in space

    Laika became the first dog in space aboard Sputnik 2. Thi.s meant that space travel could be okay for humans

  • USA launches explorer 1

    First USA earth satellite, means that USA is in the space race.

  • USA launches NASA space program

    Allows USA more space technology and lets them focus on more reasearch to help them.

  • 1st man in space

    The soviets launched the first man into space, Yuri Gagaran. This was important beacause it meant humans could travel in space.

  • First American in space

    Alan Shepard was launched into space, becoming the first American in space.

  • 1st American to orbit earth and oldest man in space

    John Glen became the first American to orbit the earth. This was important because it gave the USA more information on earth´s orbit.

    On this date, presenent JFK luanched the apollo missions, who´s purpose was to get a man on the moon within that decade.

    This was the mission that got the first man on the moon.
