Dust Bowl
The Dust Bowl lasted for 10 years. During this time the weather conditions were too hot and dry to produce any farming. Becuase of South Dakotas dependence on farming for survival many people died during this time. In just 10 years South Dakotas population declined by more than 7%. -
Payment to Lakota People
In 1980 the United States Supreme court ordered the Lakota people be repayed for the Black Hills. The Lakota people refused th money and demanded the land back. Without an agreement being met the case is still open today.
