  • The beginning

    During the 18-19th century, a lot of changes in society. Lower social classes started reading and crime was a popular subject. It was gradually put into weekly instalments.

    During his lifetime he created crime fiction as we know today. Most elements we consider typical today, showed up in his first 3 works.
  • Arthur Donan Doyle

    He created Sherlock Holmes, who became one of the most known crimes fiction characters. Sherlock was more "in depth" and more relatable to the reader, which other authors took note of. From here the crime itself is no longer the carrying element, but also the actual detective.
  • America - "The Hard Boiled Crime Story"

    Americans loved the British crime stories and wrote them on the British model. In the 1920 American society changed and thefore the "gentleman detective" became outdated, as crime and corruption was a big part of society.
  • The Golden age

    Here the detectives become more normal and regular people. People that are so more relatable to the public. They also started co-operating with the police, probably the police is actually accepted in society.
  • Hollywood

    The film industry exploded and crime movies were popular. It made crime stories that much more popular.
