  • The Test Act

    Parliment issued the Test Act in 1673. This act made the church of england surpreme. Catholics were not allowed to hold political office, vote, or join the professions. Parliment then made it clear that it made the laws.
  • Enclosures

    wealthy landowners would buy strip farms and then enclose them with barriers creating large feilds.
  • The invention of the seed drill

    Jethro Tull invented the seed drill in 1701. He tried to understand the way soil helped plants grow. And he found that when soil is broken up and enriched the crops grew much better. Tull invented a planting machine called a seed drill which could be pulled by horses. it planted seeeds neatly in rows and was faster and much less wasteful than the old way.

    This engine used stean to put under pressure in a boiler to power a turbine.
  • Royal Proclamation

    In 1763,an Otttawa first nationas leader named pontiac inspired attacks on british forts and some American settlements in Ohio River Valley. The british wanted to maintain trade relations and end fighting, The royal proclamation was created to keep the American settlement out of the Ohio River Valley.
  • The Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act changed taxition on sugar and its by-products (like molasses). The existing tax was very high but rarely enforced. The act reduced the tax but made enforcement easier. The price of molasses and its by-product, rum, increased. The Americans thought this was unfair, some boston merchants protested by refusing to buy british goods.
  • The Stamp Act

    The stam act was a stamp that had to be purchased and the stuck on items that were bought or sold. It affected everyone and the americans were outraged about it. Officals sent to enforce the act were offen attacked, some were even tarred and feathered. Many engtlish politicans sided with the americans in the sense that thy hated it. The act was a disaster and it was repealed in 1766.
  • The Townshend Act

    In the Townshend Act a series of measures introduced into the English Parliament by Chancellor of the Exchequer Charles Townshend in 1767. This Act imposed duties on glass, lead, paints, paper, and tea being imported into the colonies.
  • Boston Massacre

    In 1770 there were Britsih troops stationed throughout the thirteen colonies. Familes would have to let them live in their homes with them. During a protest in boston the soilders misunderstood an order and fired into the crowd. THis killed several people. This event was then turned into propoganda against Britan by colonial leaders.
  • Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party was on December 16 1773. The goal of this even was to protest british parliments unfair tax on tea. There were about 116 people who participated in the protest. These people destroyed a fourtune in tea by throwing it into the harbour off the ships. This became one of the most symbolic events leading up to the American Revolution.

  • The Declaration of Independance

    On July 4th 1776, The Declaration of Independance stated that the thirteen american colonies, which at this time were at war with Britan, would now be thirteen new independant sovereign states. No longer a part of the british empire.

  • The Fall of Bastille

    On July 14th 1789 a great mob attacked the royal prison and fortress known as 'Bastille'. There were troops sent to stop the mob but just joined it instead and Bastille was soon captured. All seven of the prisoners were let free.There were more riots at other prisons in paris all over prices that were rising.
  • Declaration of Rights

    The Declaration of Human Rights of Man and the Citizen was passed by the National Assembly in august of 1789, This declaration set out basic human rights that goverments may not overlook. The declaration guaranteed freedom of thought, speech, religion, security, and property, and also put limits on the power of government.
  • The Slave Act

    The slave act was passed in the year 1793.
  • The Reign of Terror

    From 1793-1794 are known as the 'reign of terror', Anyone who had any chance of threatening the power of Danton or Robespierre were arrested or executed. At this time the revolutionary government had a lot of power. And anybody who stood up to the government was executed.

  • The Factory Acts

    The Factory Acts was a series of Acts passed by the Parliament of the United Kingdom this limeted the number of hours worked by the women and children, this was first in the textile industry, then later in all industries.
