    The National Expansion and Reform is when the U.S. gained a lot of land, including Texas, Oregon, California, and the Southwest. It also contained many political changes with male suffrage and political parties. All of this made people feel optimistic about the future. Also, more people began to support social reforms like public schools, abolishing slavery, and gaining equal rights for women.

    Dred Scott was an African American that sued for his freedom, saying that since he lived in a free state for a while, he should still be free at Missouri. He was freed for 2 years but then he was back to being a slave. He never was able to get his freedom back.
