First Thanksgiving
The first Thanksgiving was celebrated in between September and November 1621. It was originally a harvest fest with the Plymouth settlers and Indians. We celebrate it now as a great time with our family to give thanks of all things. -
Independence Day
It is celebrated on the 4th of July every year! The thirteen colonies declared their independence from England on this day in 1776. -
Memorial Day
It is a day celebrated in remembrance of those that have died in service. It is celebrated on the last Monday of May. -
Presidents' Day
It is celebrated on the third Monday of every February. It was originally celebrated for George Washington's birthday. -
Veterans Day Founded
We celebrate Veterans Day every year on November 11. It is celebrated to honor the end of World War I. -
Martin Luther King Jr Day
Illinois was the first to celebrate MLK day. It was not passed as a holiday until 1986. The third Monday of January is when we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr Day. It is celebrated around his birthday (Jan. 15).
