This was the first battle of the Civil War, between the Union and the Confederants. The Confederance took over Fort Sumter by winning against the Union.Even though Lincoln send troops to help the Union, they lost. After the battle the Confederants moral was boosted. They believe they could take on the Federal Goverment. -

The battle of Bull Run took place in Virginia. It was the first major land battle of the Civil War. More the 28000 Union troops, surprised 32000 Confederants troops. The Confederants won the battle. The Union army suffered more than 3,000 casualities. The Union troops fled the battle. -

This battle was so important because it was the first ironship (warships) battle. The Monitor, the ship of the Union and the Merrmack, the ship of the Confederants, fought for the first time in Hampton Roads, Virginia. It was the beginning of a new era of naval warfare. -

The Union wanted to capture New Orleans. The Union warships were led by admiral David Farragut. The capture of New Orleans was a very important victory to the Union forces. It gave them military, tactical and political control over the Mississippi River. -

The Battle of Antietam, was the first one to take place on Northern territory. It had more than 20,000 casualties. Even though this battle took the lifes of a lot Americans, there was no real winner. The Union are considered as the winners because the Confederates had to escape due to the pressure of the Union army. -

The Emancipation Proclamation is a decree , that president Abraham Lincoln established in Jan 1, 1863. The Emancipation Proclamation said that every slave that decided to fight for the union will become free. This told all the slaves in the south and north, that they can become free and how the north was free slavery. -

Battle of Appomattox Court House was one of the last major battles of the Civil War. In this battle the Confederate Army general Robert E. Lee, surrendered to the Union Army.
