In the Revolutionary War the US declared their independance from Great Britain with the Decaration of Independance.The signifigance of this document was that it made it so that great britain could not punish those who left. -

It reapealed the Missouri Comprimise, allowing slavery above 36, 30 lattatude. Because of this act slaves tried to escape the south and flee to the north to be free. -
John Browns Raid
Also known as the raid on harpers ferry. John brown was an abolitionist who wanted to arm slaves so that they could revolt. John brown was hanged for his crimes in Virginia. -

The 19th Presidential election one of the things that started the Civil War. -
Bleeding Kansas
Known as the border war between the free and slave states. A series of violent political confrontations involving Anti-slavery free staters and proslavery border ruffians. -
Battle of Fort Sumter
The confederates attacked fort sumter. It was the first battle of the civil war. no one was killed. -
Battle of Antietam
It was the bloodiest single day battle there were 22,000 missing and dead on both sides. took place on US soil and the amount of blood stained the bottom of a bridge. -
Emancipation Proclamation
The Emancipation Proclamation allowed all slaves anywhere to be free even in the slave states. The Confederates didnt like this so they didnt let it affect the slaves they had. slaves in the south often ran away trying to make it to the north to be free. -
54th Massachusettes Infantry
The 54th Regiment was an all black regiment consisting of slaves volunteering to join the army to escape slavery and help their country. the 54th regiment was highly disrespected and no one believed what they could do. The 54th regiment ended when they went to battle at fort sumter. -
Battle of Gettysburg
Gettysburg was the battle that had the greatest amount of casulties in the American Civil war. Even though the Union won that battle there were over 23,055 casulties.
