One thing that helped to "kickstart" the war, was when the British Royal Army captured 6,000 men. This of course angered the Americans, who were already angry due to the French impressment. James Madison was torn on wether or not to go to war anyway. This encouraged him to go ahead and do it. -

The British soldiers occupied and took over Washington D.C. This is the first time (and only time) a foreign country has occupied our country's capital. They British soldiers were strictly told to only burn pubilc buildings, but they disobeyed and burned it all down. -
Star Spangled Banner
35-year old lawyer Francis Scott Key wrote the poem "Star Spangled Banner" while he watched the destruction of Fort McHenry. He saw the Flag was still standing, and this inspired him. This song soon became our national anthem. -
Ghent treaty signed
The Ghent Treatry was signed to end the war of 1812. After the Ghent treaty was signed the British would never invade America again. Neither America nor England won the war, but the native americans lost a lot of soldiers. -
War ends
The War of 1812 ended mainly in a stalemate. The treaty of
Ghent was signed in order to end the war. There was really no winner in the war, but there was definetly a loser. The loser was the Native Americans. -

The Battle of New Orleans was probably the best battle ever fought conserdering we lost only 71 men and inflicted over 2,000 wound or deaths. This battle was headed by Andrew Jackson. Who would later become president. -

The Era of Good Feelings started after the Napoleanic Wars. This was a period of "peace". It was the end of the Federalist party and the popularity of the Democratic-Repulbican party gained.
