    When you made an email with yahoo you also got messenger as well. The chats were in a public chat room. The service was big at first but as time went on it stopped getting used to where they got rid of it in 2012.

    When reading this it kind of makes me think of tinder or Instagram something that gets used by so many today. This site is that invited users to submit photos of themselves so others could rate their attractiveness. Similar to how tinder is today except you don't swipe left or right with hot or not.

    This was a game-based social network site. It was aimed at teens and young adults. As of 2021, there are still more than 800,000 users. You can create and play games and complete quests.

    This was originally going to be a dating site that would help people connect to people with friends in common. You could create a profile and include status updates and reveal your mood as well. They didn't last long because the site's spike in popularity caught the company by surprise and it took a toll on their servers so people started looking elsewhere.

    This website was definitely similar to what Facebook is today. You could customize your public profile and it quickly became the go-to site for millions of teens in the early 2000s. The things you customize could be seen by anyone and were a welcome to the contrast of what Friendster was.

    LinkedIn was once known as Myspace for adults. It was the first to offer users paid premium business line, which helped bring in revenue in the early days. Now, this website is for business people and people looking for jobs now and it doesn't cost anything. Putting a resume up and applying for jobs whether you went to college or not there are plenty of jobs on there you can apply for. It took 3 years for LinkedIn to turn a profit.

    A social network where users can create a profile and provide personal information. They could also send friend requests via e-mail to other users. It's still active to this day. it added features oriented toward the gaming network and entertainment later. It's targeted users are people that are interested in flirting, dating, and making new friends.

    Skype is based on videoconferencing and voice calls. It also has instant messaging. It originally featured a hybrid peer-to-peer and client-server system. Skype is still used today by at least 40 million people a day.

    In 2003 Mark first launched Facemash which was the answer to Hot or Not. Then Facebook followed a year later at first it was called The FaceBook but then they dropped the "the" that was in front of it. It has been around ever since. You can update your staus post pictures and stay connected to friends and family or even meet people through your friends as well. At first, it was just for Harvard people only then it opened to the public in 2006 and it took flight to what it is today.

    A social discovery website it allows members to browse the profiles of any other members. Share tags and virtual gifts. Tagged claims it has 300 million members as of 2014.

    The site where people post videos. Whether that's vlogs about what they do on a daily basis. Or their stories that they want to share. The biggest thing on there to this day is people playing video games and doing commentary on those, people either love to play or something that they want to see is good before playing it themselves. People have done so well with this that some people make a really good living making videos. YouTube also pays the channels that have a lot of subscribers.

    Twitter is a site where you can share tweets that are similar to status updates on other social media however you can only have many words in a single post. People usually use Twitter to follow famous people and keep up with stuff they are putting out whether it's movies or music anything really. Tweets are usually short and just how you are feeling at that moment really.

    An app you can post pictures and tag people in them. They also have stories now that you can make as well. People also put hashtags on their posts so others can find that post by typing in that hashtag. Similar to Facebook but everything is pictures instead of just a status update.

    This is a website where you bookmark things you might want to try whether it's recipes or even nail ideas when getting your nails done. It was once called "digital crack for women" and it gave women's lifestyle magazines and blogs. In 2012 arts and crafts and fashion were the most popular categories on Pinterest and that is still true now.

    The path was a social network for photo sharing and messaging services for mobile devices. The service allows users to share up to a total of 50 contacts with their close friends and family.

    A popular question-and-answer platform. Users can collaborate by editing questions and commenting on answers that have been submitted by others.

    This app is a photo app where you snap a picture you can add a caption and then send it to your friends. When it first came out it only gave a maximum timer of 10 seconds. Now however you can make it last until they click on the picture to get rid of it and send one back. This was the first app to have stories then FaceBook and Instagram followed that soon after. It would be a 24-hour post and your friends could see what you wanted to share with them. There are also filters you can use.

    Was a social network that challenge other networks, linking other google products like drive and youtube. The service experienced strong growth when it first came out. Features included the ability to post photos and status updates to the stream or interest-based communities.

    An online streaming network. People stream anything up to video games, ASMR, or just talking to people. More focused on broadcasting users playing video games.
  • Tinder

    Dating-oriented app where you see users' profiles within a certain distance from you. You swipe right for a like and left for no not interested.

    A short video-sharing and social media service. You make short videos to share with friends or with anyone or just watch other people's tiktoks that were made.
