  • The Middle Passage

    The Middle Passage
    The Middle Passage was a "trip" that dark-skinned people from Africa would take to America to become slaves. This impacted history a lot because this was the main that America got their slaves and slaves were important to the south. This eventually leads to the Civil War. The slave traded started around 1600 and continued till around the Civil War.
  • Fugitive Slave Clause

    Fugitive Slave Clause
    The fugitive slave clause was two federal laws that made it so slave masters could capture and bring back run-away slaves as long as they are within the U.S. Territories.
  • Underground Railroad

    Underground Railroad
    The Underground Railroad was a bunch of people that were helping slaves escape to better lives. These people would offer shelter, food, water, and First Aid. Many of these runaway slaves are trying to find a better life in the north. This impacted history by allowing many slaves to have a life out of slavery and it also allowed their children to be born free. The Underground Railroad lasted from around 1816 till around 1856.
  • The Missouri Compromise

    The Missouri Compromise
    The Missouri Compromise was a compromise that made it so Missouri could be a slave state but Maine was not a slave state. It also banned slavery from all of the other parts of the Louisiana Purchase north of the 36* 30 parallel.
  • Nat Turner's Rebellion

    Nat Turner's Rebellion
    Nat Turner was a slave that wanted slavery abolished, so he leads a rebellion on August 21, 1831. After this 200 black people were massacred because of his actions. After the massacre, there was a law passed that said slaves cant be educated, cant band together and create a movement, and cant assemble.
  • The Dred Scott Case

    The Dred Scott Case
    The Dred Scott case was a case that lasted 10 years. He was trying to become a free slave and free other slaves too. In 1850 his case got approved and just 2 years later he was enslaved again. His cases eventually got other slaves in the Conferdacy freed in 1862
  • Comprise of 1850

    Comprise of 1850
    The Compromise was 5 laws/bills that helped with problems the nation was having over slavery in new territories/states. Some states were free from slavery but others were not. This also made it easier to recapture runaway slaves which were good for the slave owners but bad for the slaves.
  • Uncle Tom's Cabin

    Uncle Tom's Cabin
    The book Uncle Tom's Cabin was written for the recently stricter run-away slave laws that were put out. The book had a very big influence on slavery and how it should be stopped. In fact, it was such a big influence that over 300,000 copies were sold, and got to meet Abraham Lincoln.
  • Kansas-Nebraska Act/Bleeding Kansas

    Kansas-Nebraska Act/Bleeding Kansas
    Nebraska was wanting to be a free state from slavery but Kansas wanted slavery. So the 2 states began to fight. This act helped form the Republican Party.
  • John Brown's Raid

    John Brown's Raid
    The beginning of this was they were going to capture Colonel Lewis Washington. After they captured him they went to capture and raid the Harper Ferry. After they did that they tried to go to the Capitol but didn't succeed.
  • Emancipation Proclamation

    Emancipation Proclamation
    On September 22, 1862, Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation which said that as of January 1, 1863, all enslaved people that are on the Confederacy's side will be freed.
