  • Stono Rebellion

    Stono Rebellion
    The Stono Rebellion was the largest slave uprising in the British mainland colonies. The rebellion had over 60 slaves who killed whites and tried to liberate other slaves. The rebellion was defeated when they faced a militia near the Edisto River. Most of the captured slaves were executed but a small few were sent to the West indies. After this uprising the Negro Act of 1740 was passed that said all slaves were to have no education, assembly, or free movement.

    In 1857 a man named Dred Scott who was a slave, was owned by a man named Emerson who bought him from the peter Blow family of St. Louis. After Emerson died the Scott's helped him sue the widow of Emerson for his freedom, but he lost the case because the court said he doesn't have the right to sue because hes property
