The prefect holiday
Simone Strobel and her boyfriend Tobias Suckfuell fly into Australia for a one-year working holiday. -
Friends arrive
Simone and Tobias are joined by Tobias's sister, Katrin, and her friend Jens. The four of them tour the country in a campervan. -
The relationship sours
Growing tension between Simone and Tobias seems to peak over something that happened between them the previous night. The couple have little to do with each other from that point on. -
They arrive at Lismore
The group arrive at Lismore and check in at the Lismore Tourist Holiday Caravan Park. The four of them head out to Lismore's Gollan Hotel where they drink heavily before returning to the camp. Simone and Tobias argue and Simone walks away. -
The search for Simone
Jens and Katrin search for Simone. They would later tell police they walked through the Lismore CBD calling out for her, but CCTV footage of the city fails to back this up.
The next morning the group packs up their camp before going to the police station to report Simone missing.
Police believe Simone returned to the camp and was likely smothered to death in the campervan by Tobias, who later moved her body, possibly with Katrin's help, across the road to the bocce club. -
Simone's body found
After six days of searching a police dog handler finds Simone's naked body hidden under palm fronds at the bocce club. -
Simone's family comes to Lismore
Simone's brother, Alexander, and a man believed to be her uncle arrrive at Lismore. -
Lismore community rallies for Tobias
The Lismore community, not realising the already growing suspicions of police, reaches out to Tobias, Katrin, and Jens, raising the money to fly them home. -
Inquest begins
The inquest into Simone's death begins. Tobias and Katrin, who have already been identified as suspects by Australian and German police, refuse to attend. -
"We lied," Jens admits
Jens Martin, back in Lismore for the inquest, gives evidence that he, Tobias and Katrin lied to police about their activities the night Simone disappeared and even about details such as the direction she walked in when Simone left the campsite. Jens says he and Katrin lied at Tobias' insistence. -
Coroner's ruling
Coroner Paul McMahon rules there is not enough evidence to lay charges over Simone's death and issues a plea for Tobias and Katrin to give evidence. Tobias is tracked down by journalists in South Africa where he denies having murdered Simone. -
Simone's parents lose faith with Tobias
After initially standing by Tobias, Simone's parents say they now belive he killed their daughter, accusing him of deceiving them "again and again". -
Family seeks answers
Simone's father, Gustl, reveals Katrin told him she would never reveal what happened to Simone "even if you torture me". -
Tobias gets married
Tobias is arrested on drug charges. He later marries his new Australian girlfriend in a ceremony in Germany.
