    Parents Read To Me
    When I was young, my parents would often read books to me. I loved when we would read together. My favorite books were "Goodnight Moon" and anything Barney related! Although I don't exactly remember that time, I have seen many pictures of me with my parents or grandparents sitting together and reading.
  • My First Word

    My First Word
    Saying your first word is a big deal! I had many health issues when I was younger and was delayed in my language skills, so it was a huge deal when I said my first word. I was 18 months old when it happened. My first word was "Mimi", which is what I call my grandma. My parents weren't thrilled that it wasn't either of their names but they were overjoyed I could speak!

    Learned How To Write My Name
    In preschool, I learned the lifelong lesson of how to write my own name. My name is rather long, so it was a big task as a 5 year old!

    Learned How To Read
    In kindergarten, I learned another lifelong skill of reading. I started slow with simple sight words. I gradually worked my way up to more complex words and then entire sentences. I remember how wonderful my kindergarten teacher was and how she made learning to read fun and exciting!

    In 3rd grade I was finally able to read a chapter book on my own! My favorite chapter books, which were some of the first ones I read, were Junie B. Jones and Judy Moody.

    In 6th grade, I learned the proper way to write an essay. I learned the basics of essay writing in middle school. I also learned the importance of reading and reading comprehension.

    In 7th grade, I discovered that I loved writing. I especially loved creative writing. My 7th grade English teacher was amazing, as she really helped me blossom. I even still keep in touch with her today. Writing has been a huge outlet for me ever since.

    Read My First Big, Classic Novel
    During my freshmen year, my English class read Macbeth. It was the first time I had read a book of that type and on that level. My English teacher was obsessed with Shakespeare so we spent a large chunk of time on that book. At the time, I didn't love it, but looking back I am glad I can now say that I read the book and really understood it at the same time.

    During my senior year, I wrote a college essay, like most other seniors. I spent a lot of time on my essay. I got a lot of help and support throughout the entire writing process. My essay was about a major surgery I had the year before. In the end, I was very proud of my final product!
