  • Better Sanitation

    • Government funded water and sewage systems

    • Garbage and waste removed from streets
  • Quarantine Laws

    Law implemented to prevent the spreading of infectious diseases. At this time the Bubonic Plague, the government placed strict rules towards the general public to minimise the spread
  • Hygienic Birthing Practices

    Emphasis on safe and hygienic birthing conditions were placed in hospitals and nurses and doctors were trained accordingly
  • Improved food and nutrition

    The Pure Foods Act was introduced and laws were introduced to ensure the sanitation of food and ensuring purity of all food
  • Improved Working Conditions

    Working conditions were improved in terms of sanitation and safety. Laws were placed in terms of child labour and legal working ages and minimum wages were given to those working
  • Health Campaigns

    The Commonwealth Government provided the funding for health programmes for conditions that had high morbidity and mortality rates in the country such as tuberculosis
  • Regulations in Dangerous Workplaces

    The government placed specific training and safety measures in dangerous workplaces to prevent accidents and injuries
  • Vaccines

    School based vaccines were available for diphtheria

    Clinics and resources were introduced in regards to better quality milk and resources for mothers to promote the health of their infants
  • Elimination of housing slums

    Housing slums were eliminated and laws and regulations were created to provide better housing facilities for the public with all the 5 amenities.

    School children were provided with milk at school to improve levels of health and nutrition.

    Measles and Tetanus vaccines were made widely available for the public
