Compromise of 1850
The compromise of 1850 was a bill proposed by Henry Clay in attempt to seek compromise between the North and the South. This caused sectional tension because it stopped territorial expansion and strengthened the Fugitive Slave Act. This meant the United States was being divided and led to increased polarization among the citizens. -
The Fugitive Slave Act
Following increased pressure from southern politicians, congress pressed a revised Fugitive slave Act, A time where people would help slaves escape so they were hunted down, This led to the Civil War because a law was pressed for this issue and the North got upset! -

The The Kansas-Nebraska Act created conflict between pro-slavery and anti-slavery settlers. This then led to the time of violence (Bleeding Kansas) which then again led to the civil war because people were now using violence as a solution. -

Bleeding Kansas the starting out to violent political problems because of anti slave states. Anti-slavery eventually ratified through both territories eventually but the whole process caused a violence shock and troubled the nation. This was a trigger event to the civil war because it caused a lot of issue and tension. -
Dred Scott vs. Sanford
Dred Scott was an influencer on many slaves. He went to court to sue his freedom. After that failed, he threatened to entirely recast the political landscape which was then preventing civil war. Polarization was then intensified because the southerners agreed-upon territorial limitations on slavery. This was a major issue causing sectional tension once again and then leading up to civil war -
Election of Abraham
Abraham was elected to be our president in 1860. Abraham had an anti-slavery outlook which the southerners feared. Soon after he was elected South Carolina seceded from the union along with six more states. This caused sectional tension because they were now these states were on their own and were still against Lincoln.
