Ivan III (The Great)
He was the grand prince of Moscow, he was also the grand prince of all Russia. The Russian state gained independence from the mogul Tartars, which ended their ruling of 200 years. -
Ivan IV (The Terrible)
He pressed to turn his country into a more advanced military and later defeated the Tatar stronghold in Kazan and in Astrakhan. Later this began Russia’s expansion into Siberia. -
Michael Romanov
The Romanov dynasty is established, and they were the only Russian royal family that lasted for 304 years. -
Peter I (The Great)
He centralized the government, modernized their army, and created a navy. His domestic policy allowed him to execute an aggressive foreign policy. -
Catherine II (The Great)
She extended the borders of the Russian Empire southward and westward which added about 200,000 miles to their territory. She agreed to a commercial treaty with Great Britain in 1766. -
Alexander II
In 1867 he sold Alaska to the U.S. for $7 million. -
Nicholas II
During his reign, Russia was involved in two wars. In 1904-5 they were brutally defeated by Japan, they joined the allied side in 1914 in WW1 and lost land and there were many casualties. -

Made the USSR enter into a non-aggressive pact with Nazi Germany which divided their spheres of influences in Eastern Europe. The pact allowed the USSR to regain some of the former territories of the Russian Empire. -

He led the Soviet Union during part of the Cold War. He had the idea of putting nuclear missiles in Cuba to shoot at the United States, A.K.A (The Cuban Missile Crisis). -

He served as the General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, he also set up 15 republics within Russia. -
Boris Yeltsin
Yeltsin illegally ordered the dissolution of the parliament, which then they attempted to remove him from office. The military after awhile sided with Yeltsin and captured the Russian White House, resulting in the deaths of 187 people. Later he got rid of the existing constitution. -
Vladimir Putin
He was hand-picked by Boris Yeltsin to be the next president. He gained the reputation as a clever and ruthless political operator. -
Dmitri Medvedev
