    Nat Turner (slave rebellion)
    the slave rebellion took place in Southampton county, Virginia during August 1831. The rebellion was led by Nat turner. Rebelled slaves killed from 55 to 65 people. This rebellion is known to be the biggest and deadlyist slave uprising. This event would have causes more tension between the south and north because more rebellion on both sides was going on. This caused more people to die and more people to put their foot down and stand for what they believed in.
  • Annexation of Texas and California

    Annexation of Texas and California
    due to the Mexican--American war and the negotiations of the Oregon Treaty, America gained a bunch of new territory. This would have caused tension because now both the south and north would argue over the territory having slavery or not.
  • Wilmot Proviso

    Wilmot Proviso
    Wilmot Proviso proposed an American law that banned all slavery from going into the new territory they got from Mexico. This upset the south because they believed it should be spread over there. Due to this when the congress sent the bill to the south they turned it down. It did however inspire other politicans on what they should do concerning the issue of slavery.

    the two different types of economics would cause tension because it defined the upper and lower class. This being the case the two classes would continusouly be upset with each other because of the richer getting more rich and poor getting more poor.

    The compromise of 1850 created more tension between the two regions because it amended the Fugitive slave act and the slave trade going on in Washington. This compromise unsettled the balance of free states and slave states.

    Uncle Toms Cabin was a novel that showed the harsh reality of slavery. This would have caused more tension between the North and South because it led more people to be on the North's side. The southerners would become upset because more people began to believe in no slavery instead of pro-slavery.

    passed on May 30,1854. Allowed people in Kansas and Nebraska to decide for themselves if they wanted to allow slavery or not.This repealed the Missouri Compromise of 1820. This made people mad because it was no longer a balance between free states and slave states. This led to southerners and northerners to flee to Kansas and Nebraska to convince others what the state should be.

    know as Drew Scott. Drew Scott was free but when he went to Missouri he was capture and became a slave. After returning from Missouri he sued the government for not giving him his freedom. The court ruled that Dred Scott had no voice whatsoever. This was treating all black people as if they were property and not people.

    Freeport was the site of the "great debates". Douglas created the "Freeport doctrine". He argued that the territory had the right to exclude slavery despite what the U.S government said. This would have caused even more tension because now instead of listening to the government it was the descions of the individual if they would want tp partake in having slavery or not.

    Abraham Lincoln ran against John C. Beckinridge, John Bell, and Stephen Douglas. He was elected the 16th president of the United states. He was a former lawyer and representative of the Whig party. This upset the north because they don't have a president that is on the North side. Due to the fact that he is a republican, this means he will side more with the rich and elite then with the poor. Due to the tension he would later be assassinated.
