Missouri Compromise
Settled slavery in new western territories. Missouri and Maine would be admitted to the union, one as a free state and the other a slave state. A boundary was established in the southern border of Missouri which was a seperation between areas where slavery was allowed and was not. The missorie compromise was am effort to maintqon balance between slave states and free states. -
John Brown's Raid and Nat Turner (slave rebellion) 1831/1859
Jhon Brown was an abolutianist that led a group of slave into a raid in Harpers Ferry (west Virginia) in protest to slavery.
Nat Turner's slave rebellion was also a slave revolt and it happened in 1831 in Southampton Virginia having the largest amount of people killed by a slave rebellion being the number of white deaths in between 55 and 65. -
Annexation of Texas and California 1845-1848
Territorial expansion after the Mexican-American War. Texas was a slave state while California was admitted as a free state during the Compromise of 1850. -
Compromise of 1850
The compromise of 1850 was a bill written by Henry Clay between 1849-1850 which stated California as a free state, The formations of territorial government in the rest of the lands acquired from Mexico, without restrictions on slavery. And the abolition of slave trade but not slavery it self in the district of Columbia. And new more effecribe fugitive slave laws. -

Fugitive Slave Act
Passed during the Compromise of 1850 which allowed the capture of runaway slaves and send them back to their owners. -
Kansas-Nebraska Act
Douglas divided areas in Kansas and Nebraska into territories. lead to Bleeding Kansas. -
Bleeding Kansas 1854-1861
The Kansas-Nebraska Act created an instant, broad, and unpleasant political outcome. The whigs were destroyed, democrats north were divided, and led to a new sectional party known as the Republican party. -
Dred Scott vs. Sanford
Supreme Court decides that slaves are not citizens. Living in a free state or territory, even for a long time, did not free slaves. The Missouri Compromise was also declared as unconstitutional. -
Election of Abraham
Believed slavery was wrong so after he was elected disunion began causing the Civil War because whites in the south knew that their side in the Union was hopeless.
