    Betty friedan
    She published The Feminine Mystique, which is about the idea of women finding fulfillment beyond traditional roles. She co-founded the National Organization for Women in 1966, and served as the first president. She published The Second Stage in 1982 and The Fountain of Age in 1993. She graduated from Smith college in 1942 with a bachelor's degree in psychology. She died on February 4, 2006, in Washington, D.C.

  • ERA (equal rights amendment)

    ERA (equal rights amendment)
    ERA is a proposed amendment to the U.S. Constitution that would guarantee equality under the law for women. It was introduced in 1923. During the 1970s, the ERA was passed by Congress and sent to the states for ratification, although it fell three states short of becoming part of the Constitution. Congress extended the deadline to 1982 but that still didn't help. In 1980, the Republican Party removed support for the ERA from its platform.

    This amendment prohibits sex discrimination in education by programs that receive federal financial assistance. Its based on Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits discrimination on the grounds of race, color, or national origin in any program or activity receiving federal financial assistance. The basic idea behind Title VI and Title IX is that federal tax money should not be used to support programs that discriminate on certain bases.

    It gave women nore of a voice, gave women a fair pay in businesses, no more gender discrimination in the general public and in the work enviorment, gave women their choice(roe vs Wade), and no more gender discrimination in any federally funded eduaction system.
  • 2 problems women still face today

    Abortion is still currently a problem even though its leagal in all states although 6 have trigger laws and 3 intend to criminalize abortion. Another problem is that there is still a huge gender wage gap. The Consumer price index (CPI) is benifit cut from social security and the ill effects would grow worse over time. Women, particularly women of color, would suffer disproportionate harm.
