Dred Scott decision
Dred Scott had been born a slave. He had lived in Virginia until his owner had taken him to Missouri. As a slave, he had no choice where he went. In Missouri as in Virginia, it was not against the law to own slaves. Missouri was a “slave state”. Dred Scott thought he was a free man but people decided not in the case in 1857. He died before Lincoin decided to not have slavery. The north was sad because Dred Scott was still a slave and everyone in Missouri was still a slave. -

The Election of 1860 is when Abraham Lincion was selected as president of the United States of America. Almost all of the north voted for Lincoin and almost all of the south voted for Breckinridge. South succeeded from the Union
There was a lot of tension between the north and the south leading up to the civil war. They almost disagreed in everything. The south got really mad at the north and decided to not be part of the United States of America. Many people in the North thought they couldn't succeeded because they were part of the Union. But in the constitution it was "legal" to succeed from the Union. The north was mad and confused about this because they had no idea how the south got out of the U.S. -
