President Harry S. Truman created the School Nutrition Act because of the constant objections from the Army not accepting men because of their health. -
CACFP
The Child Adult Care Food Program provides healthy meals and snacks to adults and children in public and private non-profit facilities. Also, provides snacks for children in after school care and emergency shelters. -
WIC Program
WIC was formally created by an admendment to section 17 of the Child Nutrition Act of 1966, but in 1972 WIC is a food program for women, infants, and children. -
Breakfast and Lunch Program
The Breakfast and Lunch Program started off as a pilot that provided students with a healthy luch and breakfast at a free or reduced price based on family income. -
TEFAP
TEFAP is a monthly food distribution program for low income individuals and families. -
Let's Move Program
The Let's Move program was dedicated to solving the challenge of childhood obesity by focusing on providing healthier foods in schools, to ensure that every family has access to healthy, affordable food, raises nutrtional standards in childcare facilities and helps kids become more physically active. -
Hungar Free Kids Act
President Obama reauthorized the Hungar Free Kids Act to authorize more funding for healthier school lunch programs, providing more fresh fruits and vegetables.
