Free and Reduced Lunch Program
Enacte by Congress in 1946 in an effort to feed all kids in school, regardless of finances within the family. It is part of the National School Lunch Act and provides free or reduced lunches for low-income students. -
Child Nutrition Act
It began with the Milk Program in 1940. This act provided needy children with a low-priced pint of whole milk. -
Child and Adult Care Food Program
This program was instituted to provide healthy snacks and meals to both adults and children in public and private non-profit facilities. It also provides snacks for children in after school programs or emergency shelters. -
Summer Lunch Program
This offers students the option of having a healthy meal in the summer if they attend summer school. -
Breakfast Program
Made permanent in 1975 after being a pilot project, it provides students with breakfast at school at free or reduced prices based on family income. -
Department of Defense Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Program
This program delivers fresh produce to schools and military sites. It is funded by the USDA.
