Maine becomes a free state and Missouri becomes a slave state.Split the Louisianna Purchase along 36 30 with the North being free and South being slave. This caused more division in the country, which heped lead to the Civil War. -
Compromise of 1850
Just like in 1820 it was about a state becoming a free or slave state. The state the was being argued over was California. It was a book written by Harret Beecher Stowe. it sold 300,000 copies in one year. It helped the war because it opened the eyes of everyone in USA to realize that slavery is wrong. -

Charles Sumner is Caned
Charles Sumner was going about his day until Preston Brooks walked up and started beatingg Sumner with a cane. Sumner was stuck under the desk and couldn't move. He was hit 30+ time with the golden handle. This is improtant because it gives the South courage. -
Dred Scott
Dred Scott was a slave who's owner died in free territory and remained ther for several years. He later moved to Missouri where he was from. He thought he was a free man because he lived in free territory for so long. He filed a lawsuit and lost thus raging the North. -
Douglas Stays in Senate
LIncoln was an unknown runner for senate against a nation wide known man named Stephen Douglas. Lincoln may have put a a hard fought battle but he still lost. These two will meet again in the election of 1860 for the President -
Election of 1860
This electon really was a big part of the events leading to the Civil War. Lincoln destroyed the others in the election by having 180 out of 303 votes. The others in the election were Stephan Douglas with 12. John Breckenridge with 72. And John Bell with 39. This caused the war by Lincoln winnign thus raging the South so slavery can't extend anywhere else. -
Confederacy Formed
South Carolina seceds from the Union after Lincoln was elected president. 6 more states secede. This created the Conderacy. -
Start of Civil War
Lincoln and the North were in control of Fort Sumter. Fort Sumter was low on supplies so Lincoln decided to send in supplies and nothing else to Fort Sumter. The South attacked Fort Sumter on April 12, 1841 at 4:30 a.m.
